City seeks resident input on Multi-Year Accessibility Plan

June 2, 2017

The City of Toronto is holding four public consultation meetings to assist with updating its Multi-Year Accessibility Plan. The plan outlines the City's strategy to prevent and remove barriers and meet requirements under the standards of the Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act (AODA).

The City would like to understand the barriers faced by people with disabilities and gather suggestions on what can be done differently to reduce the impact of those barriers. At the meetings, participants will learn about the City's accessibility framework and recent accomplishments, and its approach to identifying, removing and preventing barriers. Participants will be asked for their input and experiences with various types of barriers including attitudinal, systemic, communication and technology, and physical barriers in facilities and public spaces.

Public consultation meetings will take place from 6 to 8 p.m. at the following locations:

• Monday, June 12, Metro Hall, 55 John St., Rooms 308 and 309

• Wednesday, June 14, Scarborough Civic Centre, 150 Borough Dr., Committee Rooms 1 and 2 • Thursday, June 22, Etobicoke Civic Centre, 399 The West Mall, Committee Rooms 1, 2 and 3 • Wednesday, June 28, North York Civic Centre, 5100 Yonge St., Council Chambers and Committee Rooms 1, 3 and 4

Registration is required for each meeting. Residents who are unable to attend a consultation meeting are invited to fill out an online survey by June 30.

Registration information and the survey are available at http://bit.ly/2r9mjoW.

Staff from the City's Equity, Diversity and Human Rights Division expect to report on the findings from the consultations by the end of 2017.
