City of Toronto submits funding request to Province of Ontario to recover 2013 ice storm costs

With the first anniversary of the 2013 ice storm approaching, the City of Toronto today submitted its official funding request to the Province of Ontario for the significant cleanup costs the City incurred during the 2013 ice storm. December 21 and 22 will mark the anniversary of the 2013 ice storm, an extreme winter storm that produced freezing rain, ice pellets and high winds. That storm, which at one point affected upwards of one million Torontonians, resulted in widespread power outages, damaged properties, a devastated tree canopy and disrupted municipal services.

Toronto Public Service sets fundraising record for United Way

City of Toronto employees announced a record fundraising total of $1.44 million in support of United Way Toronto at an event held today at the 519 Church St. Community Centre. The goal was $1.25 million. The $1.44 million raised is the highest amount ever raised by the Toronto Public Service and the 14th year in a row that City employees have exceeded their fundraising goal.

Scotiabank Nuit Blanche announces its 2014 economic impact and exciting first details for 10th edition in 2015

The City of Toronto today announced the economic impact of Scotiabank Nuit Blanche 2014, Toronto's free annual all-night celebration of contemporary art. In addition, preliminary details for next year's 10th edition were revealed and organizers extended an invitation for artist submissions to three different programs.
