Wellington Street from Church Street to York Street in downtown Toronto will have lane reductions starting April 10, continuing through the summer into September for watermain construction work, streetcar track work and road resurfacing.
Two intersections – Wellington Street at Bay Street and Wellington Street at York Street – will be closed for shorter periods when the streetcar tracks are being reconstructed in the intersections. The dates for the work at those locations have not yet been determined.
This work is being done to improve water distribution, reduce the risk of watermain breaks and improve the quality of streetcar tracks in the area.
Richmond Street or King Street will be alternative routes for westbound drivers and cyclists to consider in the area, where Wellington is a westbound one-way street.
The City of Toronto is taking steps to minimize disruption to the public during the closure by extending work hours, with some overnight and weekend work as necessary to reduce the duration of the project.
To help manage traffic in the area, enhanced signage will inform drivers of the road closures and signal-timing changes will be made on parallel routes.
