City of Toronto increases opportunities for small businesses through Poverty Reduction Strategy

This morning, Mayor John Tory and Deputy Mayor Pam McConnell (Ward 28 Toronto Centre-Rosedale) announced the City of Toronto will be making it easier for small and medium-sized businesses and non-profit companies that do social good, such as provide jobs and training to marginalized youth, to compete for City contracts and City business.

City of Toronto recognizes International Overdose Awareness Day

Toronto Public Health and the Toronto Drug Strategy Implementation Panel along with community partners are today recognizing the official proclamation of August 31 as Overdose Awareness Day in Toronto. This day is recognized around the world in remembrance of individuals who have lost their lives to overdose and as a reminder that these deaths are preventable.

New Toronto-branded condoms now available

Toronto Public Health launched the third City-branded condom wrapper at Nathan Phillips Square today. The new condom wrappers feature the luminous three-dimensional Toronto sign at Nathan Phillips Square, a symbol of civic pride in Toronto since the 2015 Pan Am/Parapan Am Games. The branded condoms, known as condomTO, were designed to help promote safer sex and reduce stigma around condom use.

City of Toronto increases access to dental care for low-income adults and seniors through Poverty Reduction Strategy

Mayor John Tory and Deputy Mayor Pam McConnell (Ward 28 Toronto Centre-Rosedale) today announced expanded emergency dental services access in all City of Toronto dental clinics for low-income adults and seniors. This partnership provides Ontario Works clients seeking emergency dental services access to 18 additional Toronto Public Health dental clinics, an increase from the five provincially funded Toronto Public Health clinics offering this service last year.

City of Toronto launches physical literacy program Ready, Set, PLAY!

The City of Toronto launched a new physical literacy program called Ready, Set, PLAY! on the green roof at Toronto City Hall this morning. Janie Romoff, General Manager of Toronto Parks, Forestry and Recreation, was joined by Paul Rosen, Paralympic gold medalist, and Dwight Drummond of CBC Television, along with children from local City of Toronto summer camps, the Raptors mascot and Tio the Moose, Toronto’s City of Sport mascot.
